Red White & Blue From India

Happy fourth of July everyone! Last month, I hosted a giveaway for Novica.com, a beautiful website associated with National Geographic filled with handmade goods from across the globe. One of the items that I showcased was THIS bright red cotton throw, made by the UMBVS (Urmul Marusthali Bunkar Vikas Samiti) Desert Weavers of India. As a thank you, they sent me one!  Its so beautiful and well made and even came with a gorgeous hand written card written in Hindi. When I opened the box, it smelled lightly of incense. I love the white accent stripes and cobalt blue embroidery. I could easily use it as a tablecloth, a blanket for my bed or even a rug. Here it is in my home:

Bedding:
sheets from Target
throw pillow from IKEA
pick-stich quilt second hand purchase from neighbor

And just for fun here are my boys in bed after shooting the new bedding:

Dinner Party

This April, I have two intimate dinner parties planned for two very different groups.  I love having people over for a meal.  First off, it forces me to clean my house.  (Tip: invite people over more often and your house will be cleaner!)  Second: I love the way the house smells when I've been cooking all day!  Third: Its always exciting bring new people together and strengthen the social bones of our community.

Raw Linen

Linen is hands down my favorite fabric.  I love the texture and feel of this old standard - the more raw and textured the better.  I wear it, I hang it, I eat off of it, I sit on it, I sleep under it - you get the idea.  I even love the wrinkle factor.  Sometimes I iron it out, but mostly I leave it be.  Do you love linen too?

Giveaway from BetsyGrace

Our 2010 Holiday Gift Guide continues today with a giveaway from Missy at BetsyGrace Fine Linens.  Missy is a mother of six from Arizona who has been sewing up a storm since childhood.  Check out her shop for all sorts of wonderful personalized gifts.  Her linens are sure to become family heirlooms. This is what Missy has to say about her home business, "With my family of six kids there is no way I can put linen on my table! I guess this is my way of trying to make someone else's table beautiful. Just to work with the fabric and package it up pretty makes me feel happy. Someday I can use beautiful linens on my own table but for now I will be content with all of the tables in the world that are made beautiful because of my handiwork!"  Miss would like to make YOUR table beautiful with this incredible monogrammed linen table runner.
