Houzz Tour | Nat and Dana Pugh

Last week I posted a little sneak peek at Dana Pugh's house. And as promised I'm back this week with the whole she-bang! I love covering homes for Houzz.com because I always meet the most creative home owners. Dana is an interior stylist who spends her days knee-deep in vibrant paint samples, bold patterns and flashy home accessories. But when she returns home from work, she needs a palate cleanser. Neutrals reign supreme at the Pugh house.

Dana and her husband, Nat, have created a serene, creamy-hued dream home using natural materials, vintage furniture and lots of unique found objects. To see the full article and see more photos of Dana's home, click HERE.

Color Cleanse

Sometimes I get a little bogged down with my favorite colors and I can't see past them.  This is when a color cleanse is in order.  Just say no to myopic color hoarding and live a little!

Oh, and P.S.  For those of you who are on the weight loss path with me over at Smaller Sarah, I'm so excited because I lost 4 pounds this week!  I'm finally back on track after a crazy month of ice cream and pediatric surgery!

The Home as Studio

The photo below of John Lennon and Yoko Ono quietly writing together in a communal space got me thinking about transitional rooms that provide a haven for creative pursuits.  When designing my own home, it is my goal that almost every room be at the ready for a painting project, journal entry, quiet reading or some other creative endeavour.  I love when rooms call out for creative play and thoughtful art.

What I did last weekend.

Our family room is a converted garage.  Its got crappy carpet and a lot of space, which makes it perfect for my son's play area and watching Major League Baseball.  Since this room houses an extensive set of Tonka trucks and our home's only TV, we spend a fair amount of time in here.  Last weekend, I finally bit the bullet and did something to elevate the look and feel of this much loved, but much neglected space.  With the help of my sweet mother, I painted and rearranged.  The color I chose is Rainwater from the Martha Stewart collection.  My favorite thing about this paint, besides its lovely color is that it doesn't smell.  I've spent a week with the new room and overall, I really love it.  I'm doing a test run with the space today:  I have 13 toddlers storming the house for my son's third birthday.  Hopefully the room holds up under the unsteady rush of kiddos.  Here are some before and after shots:

Play area.

My splurge for the room was this groovy elephant lamp on sale from Cost Plus World Market.
