Hope is the thing with feathers.

It is the first day of 2022 and I thought we'd start it off with an art making process video! I just sent end-of-year letters to all of my subscribers through Patreon. And for those who subscribe at $10 a month or more, I also slipped in an original signed watercolor.

Feathers hold special meaning for me. My brother, who died in 2014, liked to create 3D artworks with feathers. In memory, I had a feather tattooed on my inner forearm, tied around my wrist with a string that bears his name. He's always there, holding my hand, close to my pulse, reminding me to fly.

This year, I want to deepen my practice of creative flight and risk-taking. These little feather paintings are a way of inviting my community into this practice.

Emily Dickinson tells us that hope is the thing with feathers. I deeply value the way in which my community practices active hope and collective care. I can't wait for these feathers to arrive in their mail boxes, a little reminder of my love and appreciation.
