Foraging Morels in Eastern Oregon

It had been raining for two days. Then the sun came out and the puddles dried out. You could smell it in the air - a mixture of grass, manure, creek water, and mushrooms. Yes, mushrooms. Last week, my 12-year-old and I headed into the woods with another homeschooling family to hunt morels. They’re always plentiful out here in the Wallowa range just after a good rain. This was a first-time experience for my me and my son and we were not dissapointed. We also found a flurry of other fungi on our outing!
