This piece was created last month as a commission. I modeled my two figures from this turn of the century photograph. I don’t know much about the origins of this photo, but I loved these two women. I loved their closeness, their expressions, and their timelessness.

This painting depicts two people sitting close together on the side of a hill under a full moon. There is a kind of calm intimacy, not only with each other, but with their environment. They are not separate from the earth on which they sit. They are part of it. They exist in a state of co-participation, co-regulation, and co-creation. They are at once a source and a resource.

My client knew my work very well and pointed me towards some of their favorite pieces of mine, so I had a nice understanding of what kinds of backgrounds, colors, and compositions spoke to them. I am so pleased with how this piece turned out.

This spring, I’m embarking on a new series for a June solo art show at the Royal Artisan Gallery in Baker City, OR. This piece will certainly be foundational to the creation of that upcoming series. So there will be more like this soon!
