Book Giveaway WINNER

Happy MLK day to all of you! Today, we're announcing the winner of our book giveaway! From 26 entrants, the winning number is #22!

Congrats to Cecilia Hanna Good Juju Goddess (#22), the winner of our Radical Homemaking book giveaway! Cecilia, you'll be receiving three titles by homesteader and author, Shannon Hayes. Thank you to Shannon for generously donating her beautiful books for this giveaway!

Huge Vintage Lamp

This week, I bought an enormous vintage lamp from someone in my neighborhood. Really, this thing is over three feet tall! But I needed a big burst of light in my dark dining room and this lamp certainly fits the bill.

And as for my bathroom remodel, we are definitely in the final throes of this massive project. I'm so pleased with how it's turning out. A few more finishing touches and it will be ready for photos! Here's a little sneak peek. Thanks to the amazing people at Moen who donated this faucet fixture for the project. I think it  looks really sharp.

And finally...

Three random things you should know:

1)  THIS cashmere sweater from J.Jill, usually $249 is on sale today for $101.99. I got it for Christmas from my in-laws and it's my favorite thing ever. It also comes in petite and plus sizes. Go get yours.

2)  And for those of you who just thought to yourself, "Yes - I need plus size clothing that is stylish and doesn't look like a potato sack", I just found a beautiful collection of linen clothing in exactly my style for the more statuesque. (They also have misses styles). Check out Vivid Linen.

3)  There is still time to enter our Radical Homemaking giveaway. Click HERE for details and to enter!

Loretta is will be making a custom sterling silver photo necklace for one La Maison Boheme reader. Your cropped and adjusted photograph will be printed at a Pro Lab and set in the bezel of the necklace. The photograph will be sealed and protected with a durable layer of clear resin. The jewelry is cast in sterling silver and given a matte finish with an eco-friendly process. Liver of sulfur is used to antique and oxidize the sterling silver, and the high areas of the design were burnished to a brilliant shine. The necklace is finished with a white freshwater pearl. The necklace is on a 16″- 18″ sterling silver cable chain, (there is a 2″ extender finished with a tiny freshwater pearl to extend the chain to 18″). The diameter of the square silver shape is 1/2″ x 1/2″.

Moen Faucet Giveaway

I've had a project in the works for some time: my husband and I are going to remodel our master bathroom. It hasn't happened yet, because I'm still putting the funds together, but we're hoping that this year we'll be able to get started. The impetus to remodel is not for the usual reasons. Don't get me wrong... we'll certainly enjoy an update. But the main reason for the remodel is that we need our bathroom to be wheel chair accessible for our son, Charlie.

This is why I was over the moon when Moen contacted me and asked if I would like to have a faucet from their new 90 Degree collection. Does the Pope wear a funny hat? - of course I want one! I love the beautiful Moen faucet we installed this fall in my kitchen. And it gets even better. Moen wants to give one to YOU! They're giving the faucet below to one lucky La Maison Boheme reader and you can choose your finish: chrome (as I did) or brushed nickel!

90 Degree Low Arch  Single Handle Faucet

The faucet arrived to my house in record time and is patiently awaiting installation. It is gorgeous! Shiny new bath fixtures are like jewels to me. It might take me a while to pull together the rest of the vanity, but I promise to do a beautiful before and after post so you can see what we did!

Octavia Bloom Winner

Hello dear readers - sorry I'm posting so late today.  My office is in a tail spin and my computer is buried beneath a pile of books and paper. I had to wait until my man returned home from work with his laptop.

Yesterday, my husband and I rearranged our entire home.  Everything except for the living room had some kind of major change.  The house is put back together, but my office is still in the ground zero stages.  So, onto the business of the day...

Congratulations to Robinanne,
winner of a 50 dollar gift certificate to Octavia Bloom!

Thank you to everyone who entered.
Have a great Monday!

Giveaway from Octavia Bloom

Hello and happy Monday!  Spring has sprung in my neck of the woods and we are celebrating with a giveaway! This week, La Maison Boheme readers have a chance to win a 50 dollar gift certificate from Octavia Bloom, an online shop filled with gorgeous handmade jewelry. Octavia Bloom is the brainchild of Jenny Christiansen, a jewelry artist living in Bozeman, Montana. This is what she has to say about her work:

I love the wildflowers of Spring and their shameless displays of themselves. Bright and bold, on the side of dusty old roads, or romantic and free, in hidden alpine meadows. The jewelry I create is my tribute to these wild beauties. While out on morning walks my eyes are drawn to them and my mind absorbs the colors, shapes and textures of these wild blooms. Then later, tucked away in my old school house studio, I try to recreate these beauties. My hope is that wearing or viewing my jewelry gives you a sense of the wondrous, natural world we live in full of beautiful, blossoming wildflowers.   ~ Jenny

I Won "Paris in Color"

Thank you to Milsters, author of the lovely blog Little Pieces of Light for hosting a great Christmas giveaway!  I won Paris in Color - a book of photos by the very talented Nichole Robertson of Little Brown Pen.  I couldn't be happier!  This book is a stunning collection of Nichole's Paris photos organized according to color.  It's breathtaking. Thank you Milsters - what a wonderful surprise!

Paris in Color reminds me of this quote about vitality, generosity and joy by Simone de Beauvoir:

"There is vitality only by means of free generosity... and sensitivity is nothing else but the presence which is attentive to the world and to itself. The reward for these spontaneous qualities issues from the fact that they make significances and goals appear in the world. They discover reasons for existing. They confirm us in the pride and joy of our destiny as man."

Free Art from iCanvas Art

Yes.  Art for free!  A few weeks ago, a very nice representative from iCanvas Art emailed me to see if I was interested in doing an art giveaway.  They sent me my very own canvas for review and would like to give away a free 27"x19" art canvas to one of you!

I chose a beautiful nude by August Macke for display in my new studio office. It was shipped very quickly and arrived in beautiful condition.  The canvas is well wrapped and extremely sturdy. I am completely satisfied with the color, texture and quality of the canvas. Here is a photo of it in my home:

There are hundreds of pieces to chose from or you can submit your own photo!  If I were to order again, I'd probably chose one of the following:

Peonies by Manet

Untitled piece by Paul Klee

"A Walk in the Forest" by Rousseau

Parking Girl on Swing by Banksy

And because I'm a total theater geek...

R&J Poster from the Ahmanson

Giveaway from IKATSUZANI

I'm so excited about today's silk Ikat pillow giveaway from IKATSUZANI. In the IKATSUZANI shop you can find unusually bright and rich textiles of Uzbekistan which were hand crafted by the local artisans. The shop specializes in modern and vintage suzani and ikat and in home décor products using both modern and vintage upcycled fabrics and embroideries. The products are all hand made in Uzbekistan and all the fabric are handpicked across the country. These means that each piece has had a lot of love and care go into its design and each is very unique - just like the hand-woven, silk Ikat pillow case IKATSUZAI is giving away below.

Hand Woven Silk Ikat Lumbar Pillow Case - 22 X 16 inches

SUZANI
The suzani is a typical embroidered textile of Central Asia. High culture of ornamental art, color flair, precise rules of forms and color combinations, fine skills of embroidery as well as great sense of lines and proportions – all these enable Uzbek artisans to create embroidery of high artistic value. Suzanis differ a lot depending on the locality in which they are produced. In the IKATUSUZANI shop you can find and collect suzanis from different regions of Uzbekistan – Bukhara, Samarkand, Tashkent etc. You can also find suzanis with different base fabrics – velvet, silk, cotton and satin. What unites them is that most of them are embroidered with a home spun silk thread, in some cases hand dyed.

IKAT
In the IKATSUZANI shop you can also find products made with hand woven and hand dyed ikat fabrics. Bold aesthetics, vivid and unexpected color combinations, abstract patterns and amazing silky textures characterize ikat. Many ornamental designs of ikat still harbor the carry-overs of ancient beliefs and are thought to have powers of a talisman. Among various ikat patterns you can see the stylized elements of certain birds and animals, trees and flowers, fruits and seeds, sun and moon - which were endowed with sacred power. Ikat weaving is still a major source of sustainable income for many local artisans. Keep in mind that IKATSUZANI also does custom orders.

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED - THANK YOU

To enter this giveaway, please visit the IKATSUZANI shop. Then come back here and share with us your favorite item by leaving a comment below.

Bonus Entries:
1) You can enter again by becoming a follower of La Maison Boheme - see the sidebar on the right,  2) Become a Facebook friend or  3) Tweet / post about this giveaway.

Please leave a separate comment for each entry. Also remember that I must have a way of contacting you, so please leave a contact email if need be. The giveaway ends on Friday night, June 8th, at midnight EST and the winner chosen randomly using random.com. The winner will be announced on Saturday morning, June 9th. Good luck everyone! Let's look at that gorgeous pillow you're going to win just one more time:

Hand Woven Silk Ikat Lumbar Pillow Case - 22 X 16 inches

Curb Appeal

It's been almost a year since I won the Joss & Main giveaway hosted by Carlee at Deliciously Organized.  I used the gift card to buy a gorgeous embroidered pillow and a Japanese style light fixture for my front porch.  For over a year, the light sat on a dark shelf in my hall closet until yesterday when I pulled her out and hired a handyman to have it installed.  I would have done it myself, but there was some masonry work involved.

Then, in May of last year, I won a Ramsign giveaway from Valorie - The Visual Vamp.  Once again, I tucked away my beautiful little porcelain number plate in the hall closet hoping to get it out on the porch at some point.  So, now my little duo of giveaway prizes are proudly mounted to the left of my front door.  Thank you Valorie and Carlee for helping me add a little curb appeal to my Texas ranch house.
